WINNIPEG – This evening, Manitoba Liberals nominated Eddie Calisto-Tavares as the candidate for St. Johns in the upcoming provincial election. Calisto-Tavares, a proud and passionate Manitoban, has been a tireless fighter and community builder in the North End for over four decades.
“I care deeply about achieving the full potential for the communities in which I serve,” said Calisto-Tavares. “I bring my life-long commitment to upholding liberal values by helping others see the possibilities out there for them. Manitobans deserve a government that works for everyone to get ahead and I look forward to getting that job done as the MLA for St. Johns.”
Calisto-Tavares immigrated to Winnipeg from Portugal with her family in 1973 as a teenager. She founded Options for Success Inc., a human resources management and consulting company in 1999, serving as President and Principal Consultant. As a founding member of the Women Business Owners of Manitoba and through her professional work, Calisto-Tavares has focused on initiatives which build the capacity of multi-barrier populations including women, Indigenous peoples, newcomers, immigrants and individuals facing physical, mental and intellectual challenges.
“I am honoured and excited that Eddie is running with the Manitoba Liberal team. An entrepreneur and advocate who is committed to her community, Eddie will serve St. Johns with tremendous passion as their MLA,” said Dougald Lamont, Leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party.
