Lamoureux calls for cooperation in the legislature to resume debate on bills, says both NDP and PC parties are putting politics over people

Treaty 1 Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg, MB –

Cindy Lamoureux, Interim Leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party and MLA for Tyndall Park is calling for an end to the PC’s filibustering so MLAs can resume legislative business and hold the government to account.

“These are not substantive matters of privilege,” says Lamoureux, “While I recognize the NDP played this very tactic not long ago when they were in opposition, no one wins, least of all the people of Manitoba.”

Lamoureux says a number of bills slated for introduction today were spearheaded by Manitoba Liberals, including Anti-Scab Legislation, and a legislated Office of an Independent Seniors’ Advocate. There is also a Trans Visibility bill that recognizes greater diversity for Manitobans.

We need cooperation by all three parties in the legislature to see important issues like the Seniors’ Advocate, and Anti-Scab on the floor of the legislature so we can review, critique and ultimately debate these matters. The longer these bills are held off, the longer it takes for Manitobans to see crucial services they rely on and the legal rights they deserve.”
