Treaty One Territory, Homeland of the Métis Nation, Winnipeg, Manitoba - The Manitoba Liberals are proud to announce that on November 5, 2021, they will be nominating former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Willard Reaves as the Manitoba Liberal candidate to run in the Fort-Whyte By-Election.
“I am excited to be putting my name forward for this important by-election to give voice to all people that feel like they haven’t been heard for decades,” said Reaves. “I’ve decided it’s time to step off the sidelines and get in the game, because we need people in government prepared to deliver action – not talk. This is an opportunity to deliver change to the Manitoba Legislature.”
Willard Reaves has lived in Manitoba for nearly 40 years. He helped the Blue Bombers capture the Grey Cup in 1984 and played in the NFL as well, before returning to Winnipeg to raise a family. He was also a former Sergeant with the Manitoba Sheriff Service and has spent years working with community, sports organizations as well as charities across Winnipeg and Manitoba.
“This is an opportunity for the people of Fort Whyte to send Willard Reaves to the legislature, and have someone with a strong voice speaking up for action. Above and beyond his life in sports, he already has a track record of justice, caring and giving to the community that will make him an outstanding MLA,” said Dougald Lamont, Manitoba Liberal Leader and MLA for St. Boniface. “We need MLAs in the legislature who will do more than argue about who has done a worse job in government.”
The provincial by-election for Fort Whyte has to be called within six months of Brian Pallister resigning his seat.
The Manitoba Liberal nomination meeting for Fort Whyte is happening next week, Friday, November 5, at 6:30 P.M. at the Lindenwood Community Centre.
