Treaty 1 Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg, MB - Manitoba Liberal Leader and MLA for St. Boniface has written a letter to the Auditor General requesting an investigation into The Link, formerly MacDonald Youth Services, over allegations of mismanagement and is asking insiders to confidentially share with the AG what they may know about allegations of mismanagement.
Lamont said he wrote the letter because the allegations at The Link required an investigator with the power to do a thorough audit, like the Auditor General.
"With all due respect to anyone else, we don't believe a third party will be able to do the deep dive into the Link's finances that the Auditor General can do - they just don't have the authority," said Lamont. "This is an agency that takes care of over 10,000 children who've been taken from their families, 80% of whom are Indigenous. It gets over $20- million in provincial funding, and people say it's in crisis. When children's safety is at stake, we should be treating this like the emergency it is."
Lamont said anyone who has information or evidence to share with the Auditor General about The Link can do so in confidence by emailing citizen.concerns@oag.mb.ca or by phoning 204-945-3351.
