Manitoba Liberals to Introduce Resolution Against Antisemitism

Treaty 1 Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis - On today's Order Paper for the Manitoba Legislature is a resolution put forward by the Manitoba Liberals calling on the Provincial Government to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of Antisemitism.

MLA Jon Gerrard (River Heights) is introducing the resolution and said there is a growing movement that has seen 27 U.S. states adopt the IHRA definition. In Canada, the provinces of Alberta and Ontario have done so by Order in Council.

"We have seen an alarming increase in antisemetic acts and racism in Canada and across the world in recent months and years," said Gerrard. "We need to be doing all we can to combat antisemitism and send the message that racism is not welcome anywhere."

The resolution will be introduced for debate on the morning of Tuesday November 2, during the time for private members' resolutions.

Manitoba Liberals are hoping for unanimous support to pass the resolution.
