Neil Johnston has significant experience serving the public in healthcare as a direct care provider teacher, manager and leader. Neil is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) currently serving as the CEO and Director of Health Initiatives of a provincial health charity. His previous public service includes being a Director of Respiratory Therapy Services for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg (HSC).
Prior to becoming a manager Neil was a Respiratory Therapy Clinical Specialist at HSC in Children’s and Women’s Programs and an instructor for the RRT educational program. Neil promoted the public interest by serving as a board member and President of the provincial regulatory body for RRTs and as a board member of the national RRT professional society.
Neil has been an active volunteer board member, director and chair of several of provincial and national not-for-profit organizations.
Neil is a member of the Navy League of Canada, Cornwell (Winnipeg) Branch which co-sponsors, with the DND, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC) #49 where he continues to champion youth development. Neil was a Commissioned Officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre of the Canadian Forces Reserve, completing his service commanding RCSCC #49 with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. Neil is a recipient of the Navy League Certificate of Appreciation and Long Service Medal; and has been awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration for Service.
A long-time south Winnipeg resident, Neil attended and graduated from area schools, Red River College and the University of Manitoba. Neil and his spouse Cathy continue to enjoy living in Riel.
