Hector Swanson was born in Neepawa and raised on the family farm in Brookdale, Manitoba. Educated and graduated in Brookdale before making a career in the poultry and food industry, he has been working for over 40 years in the Agassiz region. Having a strong grasp of the issues faced by residents he has tried to support his community in various ways.
In July of 2000, Hector returned to Neepawa where he has been focussing on supporting his family while actively volunteering and giving back to the community for many organizations, including:
Neepawa Lily Festival
Access 2 Books Non-Profit Store
Western Manitoba Regional Library Board
Neepawa Library Board
Neepawa Citizens on Patrol
International Square and Round Dance Convention
Manitoba Fiddle Association
Viscount Cultural Centre For The Arts/ArtsForward
A big supporter of the arts, libraries, and recreation in communities, he believes they support mental health and well-being of the individuals in our communities.
He has seen the health care system hands-on and experienced what works and what doesn’t work. Seeing continued cuts and access to services, Hector been a fighting for better health care for many years, focussing the last 5 years advocating for a new hospital to be built in Neepawa.
It is time for a “New Way Forward,” a way that respects each community in the district of Agassiz as unique in its different needs and concerns. Hector will be a voice that will represent you, the people of Agassiz.
