The Canadian Museum for Human Rights and Human Rights in Manitoba and in The Congo

December 10, this week, on the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights launched its first virtual exhibition - called "Everyone has the Right: A Canadian and the Words that Changed the World" . It features John Peters Humphrey, the Canadian who wrote the initial draft of the Declarationof 60 years ago. To view it go to http://www.humanrightsmuseum.ca/
The Launch took place at the University of Winnipeg. If featured Patrick O'Reilly, the new Chief Operating Officer of the Museum (top photo). Gail Asper, who has spearheaded the effort to get the Canadian Museum for Human Rights was very much present (middle photo).
Liberals in Manitoba have been working on legislation which will put into place basic human rights for patients, for children with special needs and for those with mental illnesses.
See the following links:

Bill 207 The Right to Timely Access to Quality Health Care Act
A Bill to Implement Jordan's Principle to ensure rights for children with special needs
Bill 230 The Mental Health Bill of Rights: See link below:

While we still have work to do here in Manitoba, there is a lot more work to do around the world - as shown by a recent demonstration at the Legislature - in support of an effort to address human rights abuses in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (lower photo).
