Flin Flon

This past Tuesday, November 13, Clif Donaldson and I were in Flin Flon. There has been quite a bit of concern recently about the levels of heavy metals, particularly lead, mercury and arsenic, which have been found in Flin Flon, and particularly in the soils in certain school yards and playgrounds where children play.
During my visit I talked with students at the Hapnot Collegiate, with the Flin Flon Chamber of Commerce, met with Mayor Tom Therien and Councillors, met with Alan Hair the Vice-President, Metallurgy, Safety Health and Environment at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company, visiting the Hospital and talked to ordinary citizens at places like the Orange Toad a very good local coffee shop. In the bottom photo, I am chatting with Meagan McKeachnie at the Orange Toad.
