Visiting Dauphin in the aftermath of the hailstorm

Thursday August 23:

I was in Dauphin with Yarko Petryshyn and Clif Donaldson to meet people, to talk about various issues in Dauphin and to see first-hand the situation in the aftermath of the major hailstorm.

The size of the hailstones which pelted the Dauphin region in early August was incredible - the size of softballs. Broken windows, dented cars and damaged roofs were the residue. It now appears that almost all the roofs in Dauphin may have to be replaced, such was the ferocity and the force of the hail. Even where the damage is not obvious on the shingles, we learned that many of the boards below were damaged. It was take quite some time to repair all the roofs which were affected.

People were also very concerned about the future of the Hemp Processing Plant. Uncertainly in the degree and nature of provincial support - already noted in an earlier blog post - are creating uncertainty about the future of the plant.
