Manitoba Liberals to run first carbon neutral campaign

Today I announced that the next Manitoba Liberal Party campaign will be the first carbon neutral campaign in Manitoba history.

Carbon dioxide is the primary cause of climate change. Carbon dioxide pollution comes from burning fossil fuels like oil, coal, and gas. By deciding to run a carbon neutral campaign we have agreed to purchase carbon offsets for any pollutants our campaign releases into the atmosphere. Carbon offsets are credits for emission reductions such as wind farms, solar installations, or energy efficiency projects. Buying the carbon offsets can reduce our net climate impact.

In addition to our campaign, if Manitoba Liberals form the next provincial government we will make it a carbon-neutral one.

Manitoba Liberals’ believe that not only do we need better environmental policy for Manitoba but we also need to lead by example. Everyone needs to do their part to save our environment. That is why we have decided to be the first Manitoba political party to run a carbon neutral campaign.

The NDP often talk a good game, but the fact is that greenhouse gas emissions have climbed over the past eight years and are now at 11% above 1990 levels. Manitoba is going in the wrong direction under the NDP. The biggest step we can take in tackling climate change is to change our provincial government from the carbon-emitting NDP and Conservatives to a carbon-neutral Liberal government.

As part of our commitment to the environment I will be using my new Toyota Prius hybrid car as my campaign vehicle. Pictured above is my new Prius behind the legislature.
